Martha Helen Stewart appears on the lists of both celebrity dog lovers and celebrity cat lovers in the United States. To know this American businesswoman is to know how much she cares for all kinds of animals. Over the years, the television personality has found room for dozens of animals, including, cats, dogs, horses, cows, miniature donkeys, chickens, and red canaries. These adorable creatures have found room in Martha's home, on Martha's farm, and in Martha's heart.
Martha loves posting photos and videos of her many pets on her social media accounts as well as bringing them onto her television shows for everyone to see. With Genghis Kahn the Chow Chow (who is Emperor Hans and Empress Qin’s grandfather) being one of Martha's most well-known pets, the retail businesswoman also owned several French bulldogs and many felines over the years. From those canines and felines to donkeys, cows, canaries, horses, and chickens to pet chinchillas, it's difficult to think of an animal that Martha wouldn't want to keep as a pet.
Martha Stewart's Dogs and Cats
Though Martha has had over ten dogs in her life, she presently lives with four, two Chow Chows named Emperor Han and Empress Qin and two French Bulldogs named Creme Brulee and Bete Noire.
In an interview with Modern Dog Magazine, Martha said her dogs are very active and enjoy outdoor activities as much as she does. Specifically, she said her dogs like running after the horses, visiting town, going window shopping, watching movies, and driving in the car with her. Moreover, Martha said she treats her furry companions like babies, talking to and reprimanding them gently, and spoiling them. Furthermore, she said training the dogs was very easy because they are playful.
Other Chow Chows owned by Martha were Paw Paw (G.K.'s grandfather), Max, Chin Chin, and Zu Zu. Chow Chows are powerful, compactly built dogs that originated in China. They popularly know for guarding the home and it's no secret they are among Martha's favorite breeds.
Over the years, Martha has had numerous cats including Chiggi, her first cat, the gorgeous Himalayan Vivaldi, Verdi, Uncle Vanya, New Kitty, Weeny, Electra and Sirius, Empress Tang, Princess Peony, Blackie, and Bartok, a beautiful Himalayan cat who passed away in 2016.
In 2022, Martha's cat Princess Peony tragically died after being fatally attacked by her four dogs. According to Martha, the four dogs mistook Princess Peony for an interloper and killed her. After announcing the heartbreaking news on her Instagram page on April 3, 2022, Martha was criticized as an irresponsible pet owner by many fans who were appalled at the feline's tragic death. Prior to Princess Peony's death, Martha posted that the cat was afraid of the dogs. Maybe it was a mistake on Martha's side or maybe it was not.
It's no secret that Martha and rapper Snoop Dogg are best friends and longtime business partners. The duo's friendship also meant a lot to Dogg's late mom, who, according to Dogg, loved Martha and everything she stands for. Their friendship is so strong to the point that when Snoop Dogg goes to a party, everyone wants to know how Martha is doing, and vice versa. In June 2022, Martha opened up about her friendship with Dogg in an exclusive interview with Insider. Most recently, the businesswoman shared an adorable picture of Emperor Han and Empress Qin thanking Snoop Dogg for the holiday gifts he sent them.
