The six-week-old puppy, who was named Tuesday, was found in East Boston with canine parvovirus, a contagious virus mainly affecting dogs. The sick canine was apparently left to die on the cold streets of Boston.
Fortunately, on November 28, The canine was spotted by Boston Animal Control officers who brought him in. The officers subsequently reached out to MSPCA for help after noticing signs of parvovirus. According to the American Kennel Club, there is no cure for parvovirus. And infected dogs will be offered supportive care over the course of the disease. In addition, vets will make sure that the infected dog gets adequate nutrition. The survival rate of an infected canine treated by a vet is 68 to 92%. Most dogs make a full recovery if they survive the first three-to-four days, according to the AKC.
